Nightfall

art

These images of "Nightfall" are part of Museum Arnhem's photo assignment for Park Sonsbeek in summer of 2020. The subject of Nightfall is the empty city of Arnhem during quarantine time. Last spring, Okuyama set out almost every day after sunset to capture the new dynamics in the city: free from human traffic and in a special stillness. The presentation shows images of well-known Arnhem places, such as Willemsplein and Central Station.

The question during shooting was: what does the city look like without its usual dynamics? The nocturnal walks Okuyama made were the starting point for the assignment. Her images show an unreal urban environment. The lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic is a unique circumstance that is not literally referred to.
